Structured Cabling: The Foundation Most Offices Get Wrong
May 12, 20260 views
The Network Nobody Sees
Wi-Fi and switches get the attention, but every reliable network sits on physical cabling. Get that foundation wrong and every future upgrade has to fight it.
What Good Cabling Looks Like
Structured cabling means a planned, documented system: consistent cable categories rated for the speeds you will need in five years, tidy and labelled patch panels, and a comms room that is ventilated, secured and not doubling as a store cupboard.
The payoff is mundane but real — faster fault-finding, clean moves and changes, and clean audits. Cutting corners on cabling is invisible on day one and expensive on every day after. It is the one part of the network worth doing properly the first time.
